As the largest breeding base across the country supplying freshwater fish to the Hong Kong and Macao regions, Zhongshan exports approximately 80,000 tons of live and processed aquatic products annually.
Against the backdrop of a volatile international trade environment, crispy grass carp produced in Zhongshan has gained unexpected popularity in Vietnam this year, and Zhongshan's fishery industry is accelerating its expansion into international markets in Japan, Canada, New Zealand and others.
Data from Zhongshan Shuichu Group shows that in the first quarter, its aquatic product exports reached 20 million US dollars, maintaining overall stability.
From January to March, Zhongshan Shuichu Group exported 383 tons of crispy grass carp to Vietnam, along with 850 tons of eel and soft-shelled turtle, generating 5.7 million US dollars in foreign exchange earnings.
In 2024, Zhongshan Shuichu Group's aquatic product exports generated 83 million US dollars in foreign exchange earnings, with products reaching markets in Vietnam, Japan, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and beyond.
Local farmers have also noticed this trend - since Zhongshan increased its exports of crispy grass carp to Vietnam in November last year, the pond-side price has risen from 28 yuan per kilo to 35 yuan per kilo, with sustained high demand.
According to the Zhongshan Xiaolan Crispy Grass Carp Association, over 10% of Zhongshan's crispy grass carp production is sold overseas, with annual export value exceeding 100 million yuan.
