Cao Jiannong, vice president of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), revealed during the 2026 Overseas Chinese Investment Conference on March 30 that PolyU and its Zhongshan Technology and Innovation Research Institute set up on Ma'an Island will align with Zhongshan's biopharma resources.
The partnership aims to build a Hong Kong-Zhongshan dual-base platform, with a plan to train about 200 high-quality postgraduate students in 2026.
PolyU will provide top-tier faculty for Zhongshan's talent programs to ensure training quality, and steer elite graduates toward local employment and entrepreneurship to create a closed-loop ecosystem of "talent development + research commercialization + startup incubation."
PolyU will also introduce its "MSc in Biopharmaceutical Development and Commercialization" program, the first entrepreneurship-focused biopharma master's program in Hong Kong, to Zhongshan to cultivate interdisciplinary biopharma professionals, Cao added.
