A departure tax refund counter was put into service at Zhongshan Passenger Port on Ma'an Island in Zhongshan's Cuiheng New District on July 1, making the city one of the first on the western bank of the Greater Bay Area to offer a one-stop service that integrates customs clearance, shopping and tax refund.

A tourist from Hong Kong was among the first to use the service. She purchased local specialties at a supermarket in Zhongshan that day and, with her receipt and passport, completed the refund process with staff assistance.
In November 2025, Zhongshan Passenger Port was added to the National Immigration Administration's list of entry ports eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy. Since the new policy took effect, more than 40 stores in Zhongshan have been registered as departure tax refund stores, over 500 refund applications have been filed, and total sales have exceeded 3 million yuan.
Zhongshan will soon launch a WeChat applet offering policy guidance and a digital merchant map, enabling overseas visitors to easily locate all registered tax refund stores across the city.
