Construction began on June 29 on the southern extension of Phase II of the Zhongshan East Outer Ring Expressway, a route linking Zhongshan's Nanlang with Zhuhai's Jinding.
As a key cross-city transport artery connecting Foshan, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, the expressway directly connects to the ShenZhong (Shenzhen–Zhongshan) Link and the planned Shenzhen–Zhuhai Link.
The southern extension, 15.959 km in length, starts from the west side of Linxi village in Nanlang subdistrict, connects with Phase I of the expressway, and extends southward to Tangjiawan in Zhuhai High-tech Zone, seamlessly linking with the Western Coastal Expressway and the Guangzhou–Macao Expressway Zhuhai branch line.
The newly started Zhuhai section, with a 4.709-km main line, will be a two-way, six-lane expressway with a design speed of 80 km/h.
The project is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2029.
