The Zhongshan Development and Reform Bureau unveiled the city's 2026 key construction plan on March 10. Highlights include the early-stage preparatory project of the Zhongshan Intercity Railway Line S1, with a 16.28 billion yuan investment.

Also known as "Foshan Metro Line 11 Southern Extension," Line S1 will connect northern Zhongshan with Foshan and Guangzhou via rapid rail.

Line S1, with main and branch lines and 19 stations, links Dongfeng, Xiaolan, Guzhen, Henglan, West District and Shiqi.

At Foshan's Xijiao Line S1 interchanges with Foshan Metro Line 11, expanding rail coverage to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Jiangmen and Zhuhai.

Future plans envision Foshan Metro Line 11 and its extension, Guangzhou Metro Line 18, and Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway forming a network linking the Guangzhou-Foshan Metropolitan Area.
