In September, wildlife expert Wang Haibin would typically be photographing migratory birds in Zhongshan. But following his wife's career relocation, he returned to Beijing by 2024 year-end and reignited his birdwatching expeditions across the expansive northern landscapes.
From 2019 through end-2024, Wang spent five consecutive years documenting over 200 bird species in Zhongshan, including several national first-class protected species and numerous uncommon avian varieties.
"I have found two superb birdwatching sites in Zhongshan," Wang shared. One lies in Sanxiang's farmland area, while the other sits in Nanlang's Splendid Gulf City.
"Both are wetland habitats with well-preserved ecosystems, perfectly suited for avian life," said Wang, adding that Zhongshan's pristine natural wetlands offer an exceptional sanctuary for birds, and this is a rarity among Pearl River Delta industrial cities.
