On May 13, ahead of China's National Disability Day, several visually impaired residents experienced Zhongshan's first batch of audible signal devices for street crossing on Zhongshan Road.
With Chunya Map, a barrier-free map mobile phone application, users can receive voice prompts within 20 meters of the devices.
Guided by the voice prompts, visually impaired residents were able to cross the pedestrian crossing safely. When the green light ended, the devices also emitted a slow beep.
For those without Chunya Map, a physical button on the device triggers the same voice assistance. Unlike conventional traffic light systems, this alert system operates solely when activated by users, significantly reducing noise pollution in the surrounding environment.
Six key intersections in core part of Zhongshan have been equipped with these intelligent devices now.
