The Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway, a new high-speed line that links five cities across the Greater Bay Area including Zhongshan, has reached a new milestone.
On August 5, the Shenguan No. 6, China's largest-diameter single-shield tunnel boring machine (TBM), began tunneling on Section 6 of the railway.
The railway's main line spans 116 kilometers and is scheduled to open to traffic in 2028. The project will start at the new Xili station in Shenzhen, heads west through Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Jiangmen cities, and connects to the Jiangmen station.
The Shenzhen Xili-Guangzhou Nansha section is designed for 200 km/h, while the Guangzhou Nansha-Jiangmen section is designed for 250 km/h.
The line has 7 stations — Shenzhen Xili, Shenzhen Airport East, Dongguan Binhaiwan, Guangzhou Nansha, Zhongshan North, Zhongshan West and Jiangmen — and a connecting line at the Zhongshan station.
Once fully operational, the line will enable passengers from the Zhongshan North station to reach Shenzhen Airport in just 25 minutes.
