A recent announcement on the China Government Procurement website revealed the winning bid for the preliminary research on the planning and construction scheme of the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway. 

The project was awarded to China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group and the State High-Tech Industrial Innovation Center, Shenzhen (HIIC) at a contract value of 1.681 million yuan. This marks significant progress for the cross-Pearl River Estuary metro line connecting Shenzhen, Nansha and Zhongshan.

The planned Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway will integrate westward with the Nansha-Zhongshan-Zhuhai Intercity Railway in Zhongshan's Cuiheng New District, and eastward with the Shenzhen International Airport-Dayawan Intercity Railway, establishing a continuous rail corridor spanning both sides of the Pearl River Estuary.

Construction has commenced on both the Shenzhen section of the Shenzhen International Airport-Dayawan Intercity Railway and the Zhongshan section of the Nansha-Zhongshan-Zhuhai Intercity Railway, with provisions made for future connection with the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway.
