The Zhongshan Fuhua Avenue and surrounding old neighborhood renewal project secured the Silver Award for Urban Design and the Excellence Award for Landscape and Environmental Design at the Asia Urban Renewal Awards 2025 (AURA).
The AURA is a prestigious competition dedicated to recognizing urban renewal practices and innovative projects. It aims to identify and promote outstanding projects and development models across Asia that demonstrate innovation, serve as exemplary cases, and offer replicable value.
The award-winning Zhongshan Fuhua Avenue and surrounding old neighborhood renewal project is a collaborative effort between Zhongshan Planning and Design Institute and the School of Architecture, South China University of Technology.
In terms of urban design, the project adopts the theme of "Zhongshan as a Window of Reform and Opening-Up." Through an integrated strategy combining street scene enhancement and setback space design, it reshapes the streetscape by addressing issues such as poor spatial experience, low foot traffic, and lack of vitality. Additionally, Fuhua Avenue is divided into four zones themed on Reform and Opening-Up, folk culture, modern commerce and distinctive gateway, respectively, thereby revitalizing the area's commercial vibrancy.
