2025-09-29

In Yako village, Nanlang subdistrict, the former power plant has been repurposed into the JANLU Power Plant Workshop, now a distinctive rural social hub.

"We plan to begin trial operations on National Day this year," said Yang Yucheng, manager of JANLU. "Built in 1957 with equipment donated by Macao compatriots, this facility serves as a microcosm of China's electric power industry evolution."

The former power plant, initially comprising two buildings rebuilt in the 1980s, was abandoned around 2005. Today, it retains original generator equipment, imbuing the site with strong historical character.

The JANLU workshop now serves coffee and freshly baked bread, but food is not its primary focus. "I hope it becomes a social hub where young people love to gather," said Yang.

He has also invested over 10 million yuan to build the JANLU-1957 homestay, a premium boutique lodging adhering to high-end hospitality standards. It is slated to open next April.
