Harvesting began on 400 mu (about 26.7 hectares) of contiguous late-season rice at a trial planting base run by the Sanjiao Supply and Marketing Cooperative in Zhongshan on October 17.

On-site yield tests put the average at 580 kg of wet grain per mu — about 8.7 tonnes per hectare — up 100 kg per mu from previous years and above what conventional local planting typically yields.
