Hotel Ceeil, a century‑old landmark on the Sunwen West Road pedestrian street, had its grand opening in mid‑July.

After comprehensive renovation and upgrading, the storied hotel, which holds the collective memories of generations of Zhongshan people, began a trial run on June 18 and has now returned to service as a high‑end boutique guesthouse with a Western restaurant.

The hotel has a floor area of about 1,800 square meters and offers 10 cozy rooms.

The ground‑floor lobby features a specialty coffee and light‑meal area, while the mezzanine houses a wine cellar and coffee shop. The second and third floors host a Portuguese restaurant, and the renovated rooftop terrace now serves as an outdoor restaurant and bar.

Hotel Ceeil traces its roots to the 1920s, when prominent overseas Chinese businessman Guo Siquan returned home to establish the Xiangshan Bank on Ying'en Street (the former name of Sunwen West Road). Combining Western‑style interior finishes with a traditional Chinese brick‑and‑timber structure, the building became a landmark in Zhongshan upon completion.

In 1948, the building was rebuilt and reopened as Hotel Ceeil, becoming the first modern hotel and Western restaurant in Zhongshan. In the 1960s, it was renamed Shiqi Hotel and continued to serve the local community.

In 2009, the former site of Hotel Ceeil was added to Zhongshan's list of protected historical and cultural sites.
