Zhongshan develops 4 ancient tree parks
2025-09-01

In Guinan village, Wuguishan subdistrict, the Camphor Tree Park boasts a lush canopy of trees, providing a cool retreat for people. It now has been transformed into the Guinan Ancient Tree Park and designates the century-old camphor trees for key conservation.

Camphor Tree Park

Once a neglected wasteland over 100 years ago, the site was revitalized when a Peruvian-Chinese expatriate brought back and planted camphor saplings here.

Today, the once-delicate saplings have grown into towering trees, forming a regionally renowned camphor grove that draws visitors from Zhongshan and beyond.

A 2022 survey revealed that the oldest registered camphor tree in the Camphor Tree Park stands at approximately 220 years old, with two other specimens estimated at 160 and 127 years. The park also contains over 110 unregistered camphor trees under 100 years of age.

Shaxi Park

In addition, the Shaxi Park, Xiaolan Fengshan Park and Nanlang Ancient Tree Park are undergoing renovations or construction to become ancient tree-themed parks, offering visitors a window into the rich history and stories embedded in these living landmarks.
