As of August 25, Zhongshan's summer box office hit 53.73 million yuan, surpassing the 51.69 million yuan logged during the same period last year.
Industry sources attribute this growth primarily to improved film quality.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, sparking a wave of historical films. "Dead To Rights", for instance, has grossed over 2.7 billion yuan, on track to exceed 3 billion yuan and break China's summer historical film box office record.
This year also marks a breakthrough year for Chinese animation, with "The Legend of Hei 2" and "Nobody" delivering strong commercial performances.
Another key factor, industry sources note, is the 11% drop in average ticket prices, which significantly boosted theater attendance.
