On May 8, the city of Zhongshan released its latest operational updates on the Xiangshan Study initiative. In 2024, Xiangshan Study — established in public spaces such as parks, shopping malls and schools — has demonstrated high service efficiency.

Among them, the Jinzhong Lake Park Xiangshan Study stood out as the most active in hosting parent-child events, with 72 events held throughout the year. Meanwhile, the Xiangshan Study in Sanjiao Park was crowned the "traffic champion" of 2024, attracting the highest number of visitors citywide.

To promote city-wide reading and build a culture of literacy, Zhongshan incorporated the Xiangshan Study project into the city's top ten public livelihood initiatives in 2022. By the end of that year, all 23 towns and sub-districts in Zhongshan had established at least one Xiangshan Study. In 2024 alone, the city recorded 139,000 book circulations across the entire Xiangshan network, covering every town and sub-district.

Today, Zhongshan is home to 104 Xiangshan Studies, with approximately 40% located in rural areas, about 30% in parks, scenic spots, commercial areas and business zones, and the remaining 30% found within neighborhoods and campuses.

Let's take a closer look at the Sanjiao Park Xiangshan Study, 2024's most visited site.

Covering 280 square meters and housing around 8,000 books, the Sanjiao Park Xiangshan Study blends an indoor reading space with an outdoor leisure area. Its design features cultural elements such as the Sanjiao Qilin Dance, a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage.

Nestled by the lakeside, the study room includes a waterside terrace where visitors can enjoy both reading and scenic views. The venue also hosts cultural festivals and book clubs in collaboration with nearby cultural facilities and attractions.
