Ma: The Word We're Born With (妈·马), an AI film by Zhongshan-born director Jiakai Lau and his crew, beat over 500 entries from around the world to win the Sinosphere Best Picture Award at the Shanghai edition of the OMNI International AI Film Festival.

Using the Chinese character "妈" (Ma, means "mother" in Chinese) as its cultural anchor, the video constructs an Eastern narrative of life, endurance and guardianship through the symbolic connection between "妈" and "马" (Ma, means "horse" in Chinese). 

Supported by AI technology, the video explores the deep ties between motherhood, cultural memory and emotional legacy through a restrained yet poetic visual language.

"I hope to align with China's global cultural outreach, share more Chinese stories with the world, and help global audiences truly understand Chinese culture," said Lau, also a 2003 graduate of the No.1 Middle School of Zhongshan.
