The judo competition of the 15th National Games unfolded at Zhaoqing's Sihui Sports Center on November 12, where Liu Yi, a Zhongshan judo star, secured the women's 78kg gold medal.

The event drew over 200 elite athletes nationwide, competing across four days from November 10 to 13 for fifteen gold medals, seven each in men's and women's individual categories and one in mixed team events.
Liu, born in 1996, began her journey in 2010 when she transferred from Torch High-Tech Zone to Zhongshan Sports School, training under coach Zhu Rongqin. She joined the Guangdong provincial team in 2016.
At the 2022 Asian Judo Open, Liu claimed the 78kg title before transitioning to kurash, later clinching gold in women's 87kg kurash at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
