The construction of Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway's Zhongshan section (first phase) started on Jun. 20. Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway is the most important “artery" connecting Shenzhen-Zhongshan Cross-sea Bridge with the west bank of Pearl River. It is also an expressway between the west bank and east bank of Pearl River. Deputy Mayor Gao Ruisheng attended the construction mobilization ceremony.
The ceremony started at 10:30 am at the crossing of Cuicheng Avenue and Weishier Road on Ma'an Island, Cuiheng New District. Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway is the first expressway undertaken by Zhongshan Municipal Government, and the investment is the biggest of its kind in Zhongshan over the years. The expressway is about 129.1-kilometer with a designed speed of 80-120 km/h. Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway is expected to further improve Guangdong's expressway network, to balance the economic gap between the city at the west and east banks of Pearl River, and to promote the development of economy, tourism, and seaside industries on the west bank. It also plays an important role in turning Zhongshan into a comprehensive transportation hub on the west bank of Pearl River as well as facilitating the city's integration into Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area.
