On June 28, as the last steel box girder segment was laid in place, the Hengmenxi Grand Bridge (Zhongshan side) of the Nansha-Zhongshan Highway was joined up.
The 32.4-kilometer Nansha-Zhongshan Highway straddles Guangzhou and Zhongshan, connecting to Zhuhai in the south, Jiangmen in the west and Dongguan in the east. Its auxiliary line, connected with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, directly leads to Shenzhen.
The Hengmen West Grand Bridge, a major part of the Nansha-Zhongshan Highway, is a single-pylon integral steel box girder cable-stayed bridge with the largest span of its kind currently under construction in China. The bridge has a full length of 912 meters, a main span of 390 meters, and a pylon height of 210 meters.
The Nansha-Zhongshan Highway is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2024, after which it will take less than 15 minutes to drive from Guangzhou's Nansha District to Zhongshan.
