Yesterday, Qiu Shuhong, director of Municipal Publicity Department, made a special investigation on the poetry-teaching method in Sanxin Bi-lingual School and met with the winners of Nanfang Daily’s poetry contest. Qiu expressed that Sanxin’s poetry teaching should be made into a hallmark of Zhongshan’s cultural construction and Zhongshan should apply for the provincial poetry-teaching base and moral education base for the teenagers.

The headmaster Tian Yunfu and vice headmaster Ye Caisheng of Sanxing Bi-lingual School introduced the history of poetry teaching in Sanxing. It can be divided into three phases. The first phase is to teach poems at class and encourage students to create their owns. The second phase is to combine the teaching of poetry with the teaching of morality. And the third phase is to make further research and explore new ways of poetry-teaching.

Qiu thought highly of the innovation Sanxing made on the teaching of poetry. And the next step is to better it and make it a characteristic education. He encouraged Sanxing to apply for the provincial poetry-teaching base and moral education base for teenagers. He also mentioned that The Book of Odes, as an important element of Chinese culture, should be introduced to the classroom.

To spur further exploration and research, Qiu donated 10,000 yuan of his author remuneration and appealed to set up a poetry-teaching fund. For the Children’s Day, Qiu even improvised a children’s poem as a gift for the little poets present.
