Zhongshan athlete to compete in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

The 16th Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from August 24 to September 5. Liang Guihua, a disabled athlete from Zhongshan, will play in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in C2 3000m Individual Pursuit, C1-3 1000m Time Trial, C2 Cycling Road Time Trial, and the C1-3 Road Race events.


Born in 1984, Liang Guihua is a high-level athlete and a member of China's cycling team. When he was 4 years old, he lost his left leg due to an accident, but his tenacity and courage encouraged him to learn to swim and ride bicycles.


In 2007, Liang won a world championship for the first time and broke a world record. In the 16th Asian Games (Guangzhou 2010), he won one gold and one bronze medal, while winning two gold medals and breaking two world records at the World Championships that year.


In the London 2012 Paralympic Games, he broke the world record he set twice in the 3000m Individual Pursuit and won one gold and one silver medal. In 2016, he defended his championship in the 3000m Individual Pursuit.
