As the Spring Festival approaches, "celebrating a happy new year" has become a common wish of thousands of families. Days before, more than 20 families facing difficulties in Dachong and Nanwen communities in Dachong Town received New Year's gifts from Xiao Wenlong, a fellow villager living in Macao, and his family. Xiao Wenlong, who is over 90 years old and has difficulty walking, specially entrusted his children to return to hometown to offer gifts and send wishes on his behalf. He joined with caring enterprises to send festival materials and money to each family so that everyone could feel at ease during the Chinese New Year.

Since 1987, Xiao Wenlong and his wife, and their families have kept returning to their hometown and sent warmth every year around the Spring Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival to help the poor.

Xiao Wenlong, whose ancestral home is Nanwen in Dachong Town, left his hometown to work in Macao around 1950. Despite making a busy living, Xiao Darong's concern and care for his hometown has not diminished. He believes that it is his duty to do what he can for his hometown and fellow villagers.

Since the 1970s, Xiao Wenlong has contributed to the development of his hometown. "He donated generator sets, jeeps, mud trucks and others to Nanwen community to support the development of his hometown. Later, he also donated hundreds of bags of cement for the construction of Dachong Hospital," said Xiao Xuzhen, a 78-year-old fellow villager.

In 1987, Xiao Wenlong and his wife returned home around the Spring Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival to offer gifts, such as grain, oil, and cash to the villagers who were living in difficulty. Since then, this warm-hearted tradition has become a must for the couple before and after the two festivals of the year.

In recent years, Xiao Wenlong and his wife are both at an advanced age, so they entrusted their children to return to hometown on their behalf to help the poor. "It is my father's wish to care for the needy and support the welfare undertakings in my hometown. We will pass on my father's spirit of charity," Xiao Darong remarked.
