The launch ceremony for the reconstruction and expansion project of the Guangzhou-Macao Highway Nansha-Zhuhai section was held near Guantang Village in Nanlang District on November 25.

The project starts from the Tanwei interchange in Huangge Town, Nansha District, passes through Guangzhou's Huangge Town and Hengli Town, Zhongshan's Sanjiao Town, Minzhong District, Gangkou Town, Torch Development Zone and Nanlang District, and ends at the Zhuhai toll station in Zhongshan's Nanlang District, with a length of about 50.43 kilometers. Ten interchanges and one service area will be set up on the highway section.

The Nansha-Zhuhai highway section will follow national highway standards. The speed limit from Tanwei interchange to the Zhongshan downtown interchange is 120km/h, and it will be expanded to ten lanes in either direction. The speed limit from the Zhongshan downtown interchange to the Xiazha interchange is 100km/h and will be expanded to eight lanes in either direction.

It should take five years for the expansion to be completed, and Nansha-Zhuhai section is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2027.
