Li Qiang (a pseudonym) and Ms Tao met at the Dongfeng Branch of the Zhongshan Public Security Bureau on March 25. The mother and son were reunited after 27 years of separation.
According to Zhongshan Public Security Bureau, in October 1994, Ms Tao was working in Lingshan County, Guangxi. During this period, her 2-year-old son was kidnapped. Later, Ms Tao found out that her son Xiaowei might have been taken to Guangdong. She relentlessly searched for her son for a long time but ultimately failed.
Luckily, the advances investigation technology delivered a welcome surprise for Ms Tao. In January 2018, Zhongshan police collected detailed information of Li Qiang (a resident of Dongfeng Town, Zhongshan). In February 2021, the system comparison result revealed that Li might be Xiaowei, Ms Tao's son who had been lost for nearly 27 years.
The Zhongshan Public Security Bureau, together with the Dongfeng police and Guangxi police, conducted a verification procedure. On March 3, Dongfeng police invited Ms Tao and her husband in Nanning, Guangxi to Dongfeng to take blood samples. Meanwhile, they contacted Li and provided a DNA identification test for free. Based on the results, their parent-child relationship was confirmed.
It was the first successful case in Zhongshan since the Ministry of Public Security launched the "Reunion Action".
