The history of Banfu Town goes back to more than 200 years ago, Jiaqing Period of the Qing Dynasty (year 1796). Located between Banweishui Cay and Furongsha Cay, it is named Banfu (the first word of the two cays). After generations of hard work, especially that in the 30 plus years after China’s opening-up, Banfu has transformed from a traditional agricultural town to a modern town renowned in light manufacturing. In 1987, Banfu was approved by Guangdong Provincial People’s government to be a key industrial satellite town in Pearl River Delta Areas. After that, numerous honors have been given to Banfu, such as National Hygienic Town, National Ecological Town, Provincial Educationally Distinguished Town, Provincial Hygienic Town, Provincial Pilot Town of Scientific and Technological Innovation, Town Specializing in Manufacturing America-style Furniture in GD Province, Town Excellent in Social Order in GD Province and Administrative Ecological Town in GD Province.
