1. Economic condition

In 2007, the economic condition improved a lot. The total output value of the town reached 3.4 billion yuan, up 25% year-on-year. The total industrial output value was 11.1 billion yuan, 30.75 percent higher than that of last year, and for the first time surpassed 10 billion. The annual revenue totaled 515 million yuan with an annual increase of 39.2 percent. The growth rate of both the state tax and the local tax listed at the first two places of Zhongshan city. The agricultural output value was 391 million yuan, 7.12% higher year-on-year. The total value of export gained a 5.8 percent increase and reached 546 million yuan. The practical utilization of foreign funds achieved the annual aim, with the fourth growth rate in the city.

There are eight industrial parks in the town, including Nanlang Ten Thousand Mu Industrial Park, the First, Second, Third Industrial Park, Dache Industrial Park, Cuiheng Industrial Park, Hengmen Industrial Park, and South China Modern Chinese Medicine City. The total area of the industrial parks covers 16000 mu of land. More than 420 industrial enterprises and 112 medium and large scale enterprises have set their bases or branches in these parks. A complete industrial system has been formed with new energy, IT, equipment manufacturing, textile and shoe-making as pillar industries.

2. Characteristic industry

Nanlang is a famous cultural and tourism town. The town was entitled “Town with Distinctive Characteristics in China”, “Guangdong Professional and Distinctive Culture and Tourism Town”, “Guangdong Famous Green Town”; Cuiheng Village and Yakou Village were honored “The most beautiful villages in Guangdong” and “Village with Distinctive Characteristics in Guangdong”. Cuiheng Village was also given the title “China Famous Historic and Cultural Protection Village”, and Yakou Piaose (traditional Chinese floats) was listed in the China Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Despite tourism, other industries like real estate, catering, commerce & trade, logistics are also expanding their scales. There are more than 2,800 individual and private-owned enterprises. Medium and large enterprises include Kunlun Hotel, Nanlang Market, Nanlang Station, Jinsheng Real Estate, Guanghong Real Estate and so on. The main tourism sites are the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Zhongshan TV & Film City, Hengmen Fish-catching, Shizai Temple on Mt. Difeng, Chen Ancestral Hall at Chadong, Yakou Jiyi Park, Yakou Mangrove Forest and Yanshiwei, which accommodate millions of travelers and visitors every year. 

2. Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the town becomes better and approaching perfection day by day. The road network, the public transportation service, the tap water supply have all been popularized. The green coverage ratio of the urban area reaches 37%, with 15 square meters per person. The competitiveness of the city is constantly strengthening.

The education is constantly improving. The government put an investment of 200 million yuan to promote education in the town. The basic construction of the new Yunqu middle school and the expansion construction projects of the Yunqu Primary School and other schools have been finished according to the provincial A level. The teaching facilities of the schools are optimized. Now the town has become a provincial-level outstanding town in education.

With the perfection of the minimum living standard security system, and the system of rural cooperative medical and health care services, the society security system is increasingly promoted.

The cultural and sport undertaking is developing. The coverage rate of cable television of the town reaches 98%. There are various sports facilities all around the town and all kinds of recreational and sports activities will be held every year. The people of Nanlang are keen on folk art and the town has been awarded as The Village of Folk Art of Guangdong. 

The medical and health services reach new level. For example, Nanlang Hospital covers 33 mu of land and the building area is about 14 thousand square meters. On account of the excellent surroundings, the advanced equipment and the rich technical staffs, it is evaluated as the First-class hospital and Baby-friendly hospital by the Ministry of Health.

The future of Nanlang is promising. Nanlang will hold tight to the concept of scientific development to guide the overall development, and pay much attention to the harmonious development of ecological environment, economy and culture. The economic developing style will be shifted and the urban economy will grow up positively. The government will formulate overall plans on the construction of the town and villages, and also pay more attention to the development of the people's livelihood and the protection of ecological environment. The establishment of a service-oriented government with rule of law, probity, high efficiency will be intensified, and the all-round, coordinated and sustainable development of economy and society will be advanced. Thus the bearing capacity and competitive strength of Nanlang will be promoted.
