1. General Introduction

Banfu town, located in the southwest of Zhongshan, covers a total area of 82.01 square kilometers, administering 10 village committees and 1 resident committee. It has more than 30,000 permanent residents, over 70,000 non-local residents and 6,000 overseas homefolks living abroad. Only12 kilometers far from Zhongshan downtown, Banfu still enjoys a convenient transportation network formed by 105 National Highway, major trunks and Beijing-Zhuhai Highway.

In recent years, Banfu town has been developing itself through strengthening “industry power” and “economic power”. Transportation

Located 40 kilometers from Zhuhai and 110 kilometers from Guangzhou, Banfu town enjoys great convenience in transportation: within a radius of 100 kilometers, 5 airports--- Hongkong Airport, Macao Airport, Guangzhou Airport, Shenzhen Airport and Zhuhai Airport, are available; within a radius of 50 kilometers, several ports--- Zhongshan port, Jiuchou port, Gongbei port and Shenwan port, are available; and products can easily be cleared by Huanggang Customs and Wenjindu Customs.

Water, electricity and communication

The 110 kv substation with an installed capacity of 80,000 kv and the being-building 110 kv substation with an installed capacity of 150,000 kv are major suppliers of electricity for industries south to the 33-meter Industrial Avenue. The waterworks can provide 60,000 tons of water every day; and 20,000 SPC telephones weave a convenient communication network, offering telecommunication services like broadband internet, private wire network, ect.

Education and Labor Force Resources

As a “Guangdong Education Town”, Banfu has formed a complete education system, including preschool education, basic education, vocational education, adult education and so on. In addition, there are one provincial-level middle school, one municipal-level middle school, one municipal-level kindergarten and many vocational training centers and skills training classes.

Infrastructures

As a “Guangdong Sanitary Town” and “National Good Environmental Town”, Banfu has perfect infrastructures to let people enjoy modern life, including banks, post offices, star hotels, resorts, supermarkets and entertainment centers. The new administration center was completed in 2008 and the construction of Banfu Bridge II will soon start. Moreover, the wastewater treatment plant with an investment of 13 million yuan and daily treatment capability of 10?000 tons has been put into use by the end of 2008.

Banfu Industrial Park

Banfu industrial park is located on the west of 105 national highway Banfu section. It takes 35 minutes to reach Jiuzhou port and Gongbei port, 30 minutes to Zhongshan port, Xiaolan port and Doumen port and 10 minutes to Shenwan port.

Four highlights of Banfu Industrial Park

Firstly, macroscale. With an occupying area of 10272.1 mu, the industrial park consists of 4 districts: non-pollution district, minor-pollution district, commercial & residential district, and public facilities district.

Secondly, great capacity. It’s planned to introduce more than 200 enterprises, mainly engaged in light manufacturing, material processing industry, information industry, sci-tech industry, environmental industry, textile & garment manufacturing, warehousing and residential & commercial real estate. Now 85 enterprises have settled down here and are running for a good trend.

Thirdly, overall planning. It features high starting point, high standard, perfect transportation network, communication, water and electricity services.

Fourthly, preferential policies. Besides common favorable terms, enterprises coming to the park can enjoy special favorable policies in projects establishment & approval, land transaction and so on.

3. Characteristic Industries

After several years’ development, Banfu town has formed 4 industrial clusters: furniture, toys, leather and textile. Besides, Electric Light Source Industry Base, already with great scale, will have a bright prospects.

Furniture Manufacturing Industry

There are more than 80 furniture manufacturers in Banfu with a plant area of 2100 mu in total and output value of US$ 151 million in 2007. The products are of complete range and various styles, and they enjoy high popularity in many places in the world, like Europe, America and so on. What’s more, international famous furniture manufacturing enterprises, such as Ethan allen, Lane, Thomasville, Drexel heritage and Lexington, also have products processed and exported to different places in the world like Europe, America and Middle East, making the town better-known.

Toy Manufacturing Industry

There have been 16 factories of toy manufacturing in Banfu with an output value of US$ 73 million in 2007. The main processed products are plastic and electronic toys like water guns, toy cars, and toys for many famous enterprises, such as McDonald, Tobiz, Hasbro, Jada and Empire etc. As Guangdong is the biggest toy manufacturing place in China, the clustering of related industries is an important factor for toy manufacturing industry in Banfu to attract investors and enterprises.

Leather Processing Industry

There have been 40 leather processing factories in Banfu with an output value of US$ 217 million in 2007. The main products include leather shoes, sports shoes, belts, wallets, handbags and so on, and a leather industry system has been formed with leather, leather shoes and leather gasket goods as key industrials. Many famous brands, like Coach, Polo, Colehaan, Possil, have their products processed here. Guangdong is one of the most famous manufacturing bases in China, and as a part of it, leather industry of Banfu has developed to a certain extent.
Textile and Garment Industry

There have been 110 factories of textile and garment in Banfu with an output value of US$ 176 million in 2007. Zhongshan is one of the most important manufacturing bases in the Pearl River Delta and has formed mature industrial chains. As a part of it, clothing manufacturing industrial clusters with underwear as main products in Banfu has been established.

Electric and Light Source Industrial Base

The Electric and Light Source Industrial Base is located in the industrial corridor of Gushen Road in the west of Banfu River with a total planned area of 2000 mu. Its development goal is to introduce some electric and light source enterprises to the east of the river within 3 years for better developing the main body in the west of the river; making overall development for the main base establishment in the west of the river between 2007 and 2010. Banfu will apply for municipal electric and light source industrial base in 2010, provincial electric and light source industrial base in 2012 and national electric and light source industrial base in 2015. It has already successfully introduced some LED light source projects.
