In 2007, the town achieved total revenue of 42.65 billion yuan, of which 36.47 billion yuan came from the income of industrial sales and 13.5 billion yuan from commercial turnover; local GDP was 13.6 billion yuan; total tax revenue was 2.45 billion yuan; bank deposit balance at the end of year was 18.46 billion yuan; the ratio of agriculture, industry and tertiary sector was 0.4:59.2:40.4. In May 2007, Provincial Governor Huang Huahua visited Xiaolan and praised its rapid development.

II. A strong industrial power with complete industrial chains

Xiaolan, an industry-oriented economy, has solid industrial foundation and productive supporting capacity. The town government strives to encourage enterprises to upgrade their equipment and improve their innovative competence. It encourages resources grouping and develops headquarters economy by encouraging companies to go listed and creating independent brands. By the end of 2007 there were 7,226 industrial enterprises in town, including 772 large-sized enterprises. Advanced business ideas and technical innovation give birth to a number of famous brands. The tertiary industry has achieved dynamic development in Xiaolan Town and there are prosperous professional markets and agricultural product markets around the town. Shunchang, RT-Mart, 1+1, Gome and Suning supermarket are good places for shopping. KFC, Adidas, Nike and other famous international chain stores have branches in the town. The town has a four-star hotel, 3 three-star hotels and hundreds of restaurants with local flavor. The new five-star Crown Plaza, and the 100,000-square meter Daxin Plaza with the function of leisure, entertainment, and shopping, along with the construction of some quality residential quarters such as Meijia Garden, Jianhua Garden further improve the living environment. Xiaolan Cultural and Art Product Base provides a solid foundation for the development of the innovative economy in Xiaolan. With the development of Zhongshan Hardware & Machinery Trade Mega, Wholesale Market for Metal Fittings, Daxin Mall, Xiaolan Book Center, Xiaolan Computer Plaza, Home Furnishing Center and the northern logistics center of Zhongshan City, the economic structure is upgraded and investment climate is being improved in Xiaolan Town.

Xiaolan Town is designated by National Ministry of Construction as the pilot zone of Small Town establishment, the Model Town in Rural and Town Construction and the only National Garden Town in Guangdong Province. Xiaolan has an improved medical and health network, including two 2A hospitals with modern equipment. Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail is under construction and the Xiaolan Station makes the town an important hub in the PRD. By then, Xiaolan Town will enter the 1-hour economic and living circle of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, Macao and other important cities.
