The Mashan Area in West District is now under reconstruction. On August 6, the draft plan, entitled "City Design for Mashan Area, West District, Zhongshan", was made public.

The Mashan Area is located in the western part of Zhongshan central urban area by the confluence of Qijiang River and Shijiao River. In 2018, reconstruction on the Masan Area began under the management of the West District Reconstruction Project. One of the project's goals was to dismantle the buildings whose properties had been transferred.

Executives of the Mashan Area expropriated land area of around 940.9 mu (around 627266.7 square meters), which affected over 3,000 citizens. As of now, 97% of those people with a vested interest have signed compensatory agreements with the government.

According to the plan drafted, the Mashan Area will feature an entertainment and commercial zone, a Lingnan cultural and creative block, Mashan City Park, beautiful water-side area of Qijiang River, and a contemporary fashion community.

Among these fantastic features, the entertainment and commercial zone will be in the southern part of the project, located on the western end of Guangming Road. It is designed with commercial complexes, garden commercial blocks, a pedestrian shopping street, and a theme-oriented commercial street. A public transport hub, making commuting and travel more convenient, will also be built.

Additionally, the drafted plan for the Mashan Area contains the inclusion of a new community primary school and a kindergarten.

To better manage traffic flow, 5 sky corridors will be built to ease congestion. People will be able to access the sky corridors where they can then travel directly from the commercial complexes to the Mashan City Park, Cruise Terminal, or Qijiang River.
