Zhongshan started yesterday to select 10 cultural symbols as name cards of Zhongshan. The list of 16 candidate units has been unveiled during yesterday's press conference and the final results are expected to be released in early August.

The deadline is July, 31, 2009, said the press conference. Citizens can vote through mail, online, or short messages.

The candidate units include Cuiheng Village, Wuguishan Mountain, Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort, Fufeng Pagoda, Sunwen Xi Pedestrian Street, Charity Parade, Xiaolan Chrysanthemum Fair, Zhongshan Xianshui Ge (Cantonese coastal folk songs), Qijiang River Park, Zhan Garden, Shiqi Roast Pigeon, Zhongshan Municipal Culture and Arts Center, Lingnan Waterside Village, Juxiangyuan Almond Cakes, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park.

After the selection, a series of promotion activities will be held to publicize the selected 10 cultural symbols, such as essay competition, drawing competition and cooperation with tourism R & D institutes to produce souvenirs.

Similar selections of representative cultural units will continue to be made in category of historical figures, tourism, architecture, folk-custom, specialty industries, and time-honored brand products.
