The expansion of the Zhongshan Museum is progressing smoothly and is expected to open on May 18, 2022, International Museum Day.

The Zhongshan Museum construction project takes place at the enclosed area of Sunwen Road Middle, Shuiguan Street, Zhi'an Street and Zhaobi Street. The 25,900-square-meter building mainly combines the new Zhongshan Museum, the Zhongshan Overseas Chinese History Museum, and the Radio Museum.

The newly-built areas will include the Zhongshan General History Hall, the Zhongshan Hall of Fame, temporary exhibition halls, the Overseas Chinese History Hall, collections warehouse, conference hall, equipment room, lobby, security inspection area, corridors, garage, and other auxiliary areas.; While the conserved buildings include the original museum, the Radio Museum and, the former 139 tourism department.

The main building of the new museum after expansion will include 5 floors, 2 underground and 3 above ground, and the total area will be about 12 times larger than the original one. It will become an important center for the protection of ancient buildings and historical and artifacts in Zhongshan.
