2010-02-09

A Memorial Monument, the last project for Zhongshan to help rebuilding the earthquake-stricken Xuankou, was expected to finish by the end of March. The monument is carving with Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s original handwriting “philanthropy”.

According to Luo Guoxuan, General Engineer of the Municipal Bureau of Construction, the monument will be located at the front gate of Xuankou Primary School and it will stand atop a granite base carving with “May, 12th, 2008” and with steps piled up with original stones from the earthquake on both sides.

The rectangular-shaped pedestals are four sets of relief sculptures. In the front is people fighting against the earthquake; on the left is the constructors pondering over the rebuilding work; on the right is people standing in the newly-built Zhongshan Avenue, with projects Zhongshan helped to build in its background such as the kindergarten, the waterworks and the hospital; on the back is chrysanthemum, the city flower of Zhongshan; in the middle is an inscription of 300 words or so.

The pedestals of the monument are surrounded by 10 bronze statues, with constructors and primary school students in the front and a saluting child and the PLA in the back. At the front of the monument is Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s original handwriting “philanthropy”, at the back is 4 giant characters “Shan Chuan Xiang Lian” (fraternalism between Zhongshan and Wenchuan), the sides are the logo graphics of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and on the top is a 2.4*2 meters sculpture of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
