"When we found garbage in the river, we would immediately report it to relevant departments. Workers would come soon and clean it up." This summer vacation, Luo Kaichun, a college student of Beihang University, returned to his hometown Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan City where he got an unusual job, "civil river chief", and gained a special sense of accomplishment.

During summer vacation, 27 college students including Luo Kaichun took part in the "Clean River" volunteer river patrol activity in Xiaolan. They served as "civil river chiefs", patrolled the rivers, and generated investigation reports based on the environment-related problems they had found.

This activity encouraged college students to guide citizens to care for, support and participate in river protection and sewage treatment practices. These "civil river chiefs" were divided into 4 groups, and each group was responsible for one river.

Luo said that he appreciated the great responsibility of being a "civil river chief". Now, whenever he has a chance, he will share with people around him the importance of protecting rivers.
