At 3:41 p.m. yesterday, Huangpu Town saw the blowing up of the chimney in the clay factory in the Northern Village. The chimney about 55 meters high gradually slanted to the north, fell into the tunnel specially designed to avoid a bounce, rebounded a little and fell again, causing a lot of dust.

The demolition lasts only two seconds, indicating the success of the first blowing up of clay factory in the city. The 17-year-old clay brick factory has disappeared for ever. Later, another 30 factories are to be demolished in blowing up. The production of clay bricks encroaches upon farmland and pollutes the air. However, clay factories, which are cracked downed by the nation, have been lingering on. On August, 13th, the municipal government, together with the municipal Land and Resources Bureau, the Public Security Bureau, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Bureau of Municipal Administration, started the special campaigns of clearing up the clay brick factories.
