Zhongshan's lightning monitoring and early warning system was put into use on November 23 after the acceptance by experts. The platform will provide early warnings about lightning safety risk for Zhongshan's oil & gas chemical sites, tourist attractions and other places, improving Zhongshan's thunderstorm monitoring and early warning capabilities.

The platform has 3 lighting trackers and 12 atmospheric electric field sensors with target tracking and vector extrapolation abilities, integrating atmospheric electric fields and lightning positioning data, meteorological radar data and automatic meteorological station data. It can intelligently analyze the changes in movement, speed and strength of thunderclouds, and monitor the locations and intensity of lightning, thereby realizing real-time monitoring and predictive lightning warnings.
