On February 8, the National Health Campaign Committee announced the review of the proposed 2021 national-level health cities. Zhongshan was recognized as a "National Health City" once again. Additionally, Zhongshan's Xiaolan, Guzhen, Shaxi, Sanxiang, Tanzhou and Nantou towns were honored with the "National Health Town" title.

In 1995, Zhongshan was recognized as a "National Health City" and in 1999, Zhongshan passed the fourth national urban health inspection and was designated as an "inspection-free city" by the National Health Campaign Committee. Zhongshan has continuously proven its achievements as a "National Health City", and passed review from the National Health Campaign Committee with outstanding results in 2006, 2011, 2015 and 2018. Zhongshan was awarded the "National Health City" title again for 2021.
