Zhongshan ranks 14th in China in air quality last year

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently reported on the national air quality from January to December 2020.


Zhongshan ranked 14th out of 168 major cities, rising 10 places from 2019. In terms of air quality improvement, Zhongshan ranked 4th, just behind Zhaoqing, Dongguan and Foshan.


In the past year, Zhongshan conducted 9 air pollution control actions and assigned more than 70,000 workers to implement scientific and effective pollution control measures in order to provide a better environment for Zhongshan's development.


According to the latest data from the Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment, Zhongshan achieved outstanding progress in both PM2.5 improvement rate and ozone pollution improvement rate, ranked 3rd and 2nd respectively in the whole province in 2020. The concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2 and CO reported in the annual statistics were at the lowest levels in the last 6 years.


In addition, Zhongshan experienced 211 days with excellent air quality in 2020, the highest in the last 6 years. The proportion of days with good air quality in the whole year was 90.2% (330 days), the best in the past 4 years.
