Zhongshan set up Wuguishan Mountain Ecological Reserve in 2005 to ensure sufficient resources and space for sustainable development of economy and high quality life of the citizens, in the aspects of population distribution, industrial introduction and public facilities.

In order to improve and restore the marine ecosystem, to enhance the ability to combat typhoon, flood and other natural disasters, Zhongshan implemented the Wetland Conservation Plan in 2005, carrying out mangrove planting project along the inshore tidal land.
