As a large agricultural town in Zhongshan, Tanzhou boasts of abundant natural resources and prominent regional advantages. In the first three quarters of this year, the town has achieved a total output value of 5.774 billion yuan, 19.68% year-on-year. Agricultural output value increased to 448 million yuan, 9.46% up year-on-year, industrial output value 14.842 billion yuan, 12.28% up year-on-year and added value of tertiary industry 2.317 billion yuan, 31% up.

In recent years, Tanzhou launched a campaign of characteristic agriculture featuring the planting of guava, papaya, orange and dragon fruit. Tanzhou-made fruits quickly established its fame and prompted eco-tourism around the region. Till now, fruit-planting has occupied an area of 15, 000 mu and tourism an area of 14,000 mu, including 2,700 mu of oranges, 5,500 mu of guavas, 1,200 mu of papayas, 300 mu of bananas and 600 mu of various fruits like dragon fruit, wampees, wax apples, and so on.

The 2010 Carnival of Characteristic Fruits of Autumn and Winter will be held from today in Tanzhou in hopes to further promote its fruits and eco-tourism. In the next stage, more attention will be paid to building up regional features and creating a characteristic and multi-functional new town.
