Around 9:30 in the morning, Lau arrived at Pâtisserie Comme Moi, a French dessert shop located in East District, Zhongshan, to prepare for the business hours in the afternoon. A sweet fragrance wafted through the air as Lam, her business partner, and the shop assistants were making French desserts in the kitchen.

Lau and Lam were both born in Hong Kong in the 1980s. In 2017, they left their jobs in Hong Kong and came to Zhongshan to open their first French dessert shop. Over the past 4 years, their French desserts have been popular in Zhongshan, and their business is recognized regionally for its French desserts.

"In 2017, I came to Zhongshan as a tourist and I fell in love with this city, so I chose to start a career here," said Lau, adding that Zhongshan has been improving entrepreneurship and employment resources and the supporting policies for those from Hong Kong and Macao in recent years, providing more opportunities and better conditions for them to pursue innovation and start businesses.

"Zhongshan is a very inclusive city filled with warm and friendly citizens. We got a lot of help in opening the shop," added Lau.

In the future, they plan to open branches in other Pearl River Delta cities in order to expand their business.
