On the morning of October 3, some 17,000 Australian freshwater lobsters were put into the fields of Julongwei Rice-Decapod Co-culture Demonstration Base in Shaxi Town for the first time this year.

In the past, "rice-decapod co-culture" mainly focused on the cultivation of crayfish, but this time nearly 50 mu (about 3.3 hectares) rice fields were used to raise Australian freshwater lobsters. These lobsters are prized for their large size, fresh and tender meat, and high economic value. They are expected to be harvested by the end of the year.

Liang Huiquan, a supplier and technical director of juvenile Australian freshwater lobsters, said that "rice-decapod co-culture" could cultivate about 160 kg lobsters and 300 kg rice per mu.

Liang Huiquan said that the 50-mu fields would serve as the "rice-decapod co-culture" experimental base. If they can yield good economic returns, the co-culture area will be expanded next year.
