The workshop of Guangzhou Shipyard International Company’s segmented production center project is officially launched yesterday morning at the Ship Manufacturing Base in the Seaside Industrial Park of the Torch Zone. The start-up of the project is a major node of the construction of the first workshop at Zhongshan shipbuilding base.

As early as December 16, 2008, Zhongshan municipal government had signed with China State Shipbuilding Corporation the Framework Agreement on Developing Shipbuilding Projects, which symbolized the two sides’ official strategic partnership in the shipbuilding industry. In January, 2009, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. signed with Torch Economic Development Zone Administration an agreement of cooperation which was approved and recorded by the provincial government as a major project and then the construction of Zhongshan shipbuilding base began. Feng Yurong, vice mayor of Zhongshan City, expressed at the groundbreaking ceremony that the start-up of the first workshop at Zhongshan shipbuilding base marked a new phase of the project, laid a sound foundation for the optimization and upgrading of the shipbuilding and marine engineering industries in Zhongshan which will accelerate the development of shipbuilding and marine equipment industrial cluster in Zhongshan.
