A 3,000-ton dredger “Recreation 16”, the first ship built by Weihang Shipyard (Zhongshan) Co., Ltd., was launched yesterday afternoon, which proved the manufacturing ability of Weihang, the first shipbuilder invested by Macao in Chinese mainland. Weihang is located in Shenwan Town and is expected to be another important ship-building base in Zhongshan.

The maximum cruising speed of the 76.2m-long dredger is 11 nm per hour. The dredger features the advanced drag suction equipment and is able to dredge 1800-cubic-meter mud in 18 minutes, and 8 ships one day with good safety performance.

Four shipbuilders including Weihang are situated along West River in Shenwan Town. The four companies are all able to build and maintain ships, and Weihang boasts of the largest scale and most advanced technology.
